Look, she's alive!
sorry there wasn't much postage over the holidays - so much happened in so little a time that it didn't feel like much of a break at all. I still feel short on sleep (well, I blame that on watching
the Stand last night) and I still don't have a job, so I'm a little cranky at myself lately.
Though I did get to do a little design work for a company one of my teachers works with, so that was fun.
2006.
I have come to the conclusion that 2006 will be the year of bankruptcy and dancing in anticipation for laurel
There's so much going on this year for me.
First of all, I finish school completely this year, in April. Done. Finito. No longer mooching off my dad and the school system, no longer relying on them to tell me what I have to do. I fully expect to be broke for the first month or so - the last bit of my course involves me finding a placement at a company, where I will do work and get experience with them - but I won't get paid - for four to six weeks.
Now. Sometime between April and June is when we (me, James, Courtney, Sheldon) expect to get our house. That's going to involve quite a bit of money to get started - money I probably won't have, which isn't cool.
Next there's the Cookout - an event hosted by
rkolter of the
ComicGenesis forums. That's in June, in
St. Louis; a good 15 hour drive from here (not including stops for food/rest/crossing the border). I remain undaunted by the distance; I didn't go last year or the year before, and I am determined to make it this year. Plus I've got
K-Dawg and Tynan all excited to go too - but unless one of them suddenly adopts a car it's unlikely they'll be able to go if I can't.
So all that I'm concerned about for this trip is 1) I must have a car (I think I will though, because I'll have moved out - can't borrow my dad's anymore after that) and 2) I'm going to need time and at least a little bit of money for this trip. It's on a weekend, so time should be ok. And we're planning on driving ourselves, so money shouldn't be much of an issue either - especially if there's three (or more) of us to split the costs.
I don't even know if I'll be able to go or not and I'm already wriggling in excitement. There are plenty of CGers I talk to on a regular basis who all live in that general area; it'll be so cool to meet them in person.
After that, a busy summer until September rolls around, bringing the CN Expo! This will also be a massive event, for which I'll have to take at least the weekend off whatever work I have.
Not only will I be sharing a table or two with K-Dawg,
CJ, and another person I can't remember, but we're gathering as many people as humanly possible to Toronto for the event. We've got people coming from all over Canada and the States (including Alaska - go CJ!), and a few overseas people are considering it. I'll definitely have to prepare a lot of stuff for this con just to try and avoid being shown up by all the awesome people attending!
So, in short, I'm so excited for this year that I can hardly sit still right now. I'm bemoaning the time I have to wait for things to happen, but relieved that I have the time to sit down and work on all the things I have to have done. I mentioned that
Pimpette & Associates: Volume One would be out last year, but there was so much going on that it just didn't get done. However, the first five pages are complete, and the story is already written - I'm simply taking the webcomic and revamping both the artwork and the storyline to what I originally intended them to be.
It will be done this year - by May or June if I can manage it. I want it to be done well in advance of the convention, so that I can get
ComixPress to print it for me (if they don't go on hiatus again). Also! Not only will I have copies of Volume One for sale, but also copies of the
Cornstalker Sampler, a nice fat book full of short stories by nine or ten artists on the Cornstalker forums (including a never-before-told Pimpette story!) This one might be a bit more expensive, but it'll also be bigger and probably better-looking than my own.
I'll leave you on that note - I've got quite a bit to do this weekend, including putting together Monday's comic - yes, I plan to push myself into updating regularly again!
I have three past comics sitting in Photoshop right this minute, being coloured. I hate putting up black & white comics - they just don't look as good - but colouring takes so long recently. Though I must say I prefer my recent artwork to the crap I was churning out when I started this comic. I can't even look at some of my old artwork, it makes me wince.
OK, I'm out for real now.
See you around!
