I went and saw
Hoodwinked last night (after getting lost in Whitby of all places).
I've been hearing a lot of trash talk about it - people complaining that the animation wasn't good enough, mostly. Also that the jokes were too childish.
Boo fricking hoo.
It's another one of those take-old-fairytales-and-twist-them-around movies. Red Riding Hood is a happy little girl who wants more out of life than delivering her granny's baked goods, Granny's not such an innocent little granny, the wolf's not so bad, etc etc.
(PS The Wolf was the guy who played Kronk (Emperor's New Groove), not Brian from Family Guy. So blah)
To everyone bitching about animation quality: BOO HOO.
You've been spoiled by Pixar, honestly
(I <3 Pixar, but that's beside the point). This apparently was a
sort of independent little movie, not something huge and over-the-top, whatever. The animation wasn't bad at all really. Yes I was transfixed by the wolf's face and how much he looked like an animatronic character every time he spoke, but it was still good. I liked the way the frog moved, and the squirrel...
Oh god the squirrel.
Story's what I concentrate on anyway. I've tried my hand at animation (both 2- and 3D) and I know how hard it is sometimes, so I don't throw stones at people who try.
I liked the story. It was simple and funny, the characters were well put together, and there was a good balance between weird characters and not-so-weird ones.
So, yeah, I liked it. It's not everyone's basket o' joy, fine. You've got a right to your opinions, whatever. But the people trashtalking it made me sort of mad, so I had to spout this somewhere.
