Well.
College teachers in Ontario went on strike as of 12:01AM Tuesday (today). After a long (and rather retarded) conversation with my friend Chris, we eventually decided to stay awake for the duration of the strike. Which is insane, considering how long it actually might be.
Our main objective right now is to stay awake until Friday. Mainly because Chris has to work Friday, James has to go back to Markham for band stuff, and I have to go to London with K-Dawg and Tynan on Saturday to meet Keff. We went out and bought eight giant battery-shaped cans of Jolt to tide us over - currently we have four left, since everyone came over and grabbed one =P
VIEW WEBCAM NOWRight now I have been awake for roughly 13 hours (I got up at noon Tuesday, as did Chris - somehow). I will try to post at least once a day as the week progresses, to give everyone updates on the state of our general sanity and such.
Right now it is freaking cold in Chris' basement. There was a Ninja Turtles blanket hanging on the wall to entertain viewers, but I stole it for the sake of warmth.
The webcam will randomly be moved around the basement, depending on where we are, what we're doing, and what we think will entertain any webcam viewers - when we remember that it's on. I'll have to draw a comic this week - I'll set it up to watch me draw so people can see a comic IN THE MAKING! Also, James has declared that he won't allow the cam to look at him while he's playing DOTA (warcraft3 for the clueless), so it won't be pointing at my computer then.
Yes, my computer. He didn't think to bring his. Le sigh.
If the webcam shuts off or freezes in any way, assume the internet is being stupid (it does that here), or that the program I'm using to automatically upload images is frozen again. It's happened once already.
Today Chris bought the brand-new-release 4-disc set of Star Trek Borg episodes. That's right, every Star Trek episode that contained the Borg. And we plan to watch it ALL. Already been through three, and I've only been here since like three in the afternoon (minus however long it took us to find Jolt in large quantities, and to eat dinner, and to get James and the others to join us in our insanity). Currently I'm waiting for the four of them to return with a couple more computers (still wish James had brought his... le sigh, at least I brought my Mac, but DAMMIT I can't play sims), and I am FREEZING. I'll have to bug Chris to turn the heat up.
Okay, I'm off for tonight. I'll post again in another twelve-odd hours or so... see you all later!
::EDIT TO INCLUDE LATER POSTS::
(because I took them off the webcam page)

Whew.
I've been sleeping far too much recently (before this whole thing started, I mean); six to eight hours on a weeknight (that's
good for our current semester), and like ten or even twelve hours on the weekend. So as a result this first night hit me pretty hard. Felt sort of sick here and there, but with the help of Jolt, lots of water (and lots of bathroom trips, yikes), and a tin of Danish Butter Cookies, I appear to have survived.
James, Nick, and Jason have joined Chris and I; anyone who peeped in on the webcam would have seen random groupings around a few computers as a Warcraft III tournament was going on.
Yeah, and Laurel sat and watched TV and played Tetris because she didn't want to put Warcraft on her Mac. James didn't bring his computer so he sort of took over this one. Bleh, whatever; he left us about six AM to go to bed. I was pretty messed up around five AM - watching Kids in the Hall and talking to myself. I'm pretty sure I started yelling about zombies at one point - fuck I haven't even hit my 24-hour mark yet.
There has been some drawing already; eventually I'll get around to scanning the random doodles and making a gallery, with timestamps so you can see my rapid degeneration into madness.
Well about seven or eight we sat down to watch some more Star Trek Borg episodes - about nine-thirty Nick passed out, followed by the rest of us dozing for a few seconds here and there. Got some comments over msn about that - twas fun.
Everyone else seems to have dozed off about now - they've decided to take a nap. Crazy people. I've hit my (fourth? fifth?) wind and am feeling alert again. I want to hit 24 hours before I give in to inevitability and take a short nap.
It's time for me to hit the webcomics and the forums, anyway. See you all in another half a day or so... we'll see how things turn out by then. If I do take a nap I'll post when I wake up if I can.

Roughly 30 hours in and I feel normal.
I'm sure it's going to hit me hard around two or three in the morning, but until then I feel great. I'm awake, alert, and
mostly coherent. We've noticed that if I talk for too long at a time I start to slur my words and my sentences begin to break down, but other than that I appear to be absolutely fine.
After posting the last little note, I decided against a nap and instead talked Chris into making me some eggs. Twas a good breakfast - too bad the other three were out cold and unable to enjoy it. Hah!
Not much else to say - Jason and Nick left, James S and Ryan might swing by later to keep us awake and entertained. My James had a good eight hours sleep, and he was stumbling around tired earlier. We thought that was pretty funny.
Okay, well I wanted to post and say I HAVE NOT NAPPED YET and plan to continue and meet the 48-hour mark (tomorrow at noon). We've heard you start hallucinating about that point, and I want to find out if that's true... for me at least.

Almost at 40 hours.
This is the time of night I usually crawl into bed and sleep, so I feel a bit crappy right now. Tired. Yawning, eyelids aching and closing heavily.
So I must keep moving.
HOOIEMAFOO! says Ryan.
There's been a lot of starcraft in the past few hours, but I did have my computer to myself so I forumed and went in chat and basically entertained myself. We've been spreading the disease, bwahahah. Fun.
I may pass out at some point today (being Thursday), but I plan to force myself another eight hours - I want to hit my 48-hour mark before I allow myself to collapse.
Because I have to collapse on Friday anyway - I want to be lucid when I go with Dawg and Tynan to meet Keffria on Saturday. Oh well. If I fall asleep, I'll try and make sure it's only a short nap. I want to keep this sort of thing going up till mid-Friday; we wanted to test for hallucinations.
OK well I have to split, James wants to play Starcraft. Oh and if you're wondering at my coherent speaking... well... i have to keep going back and editing words for making-sense-ability. So there. HA.

I think this is the end of the road. Definitely going to pass out in the next hour or so.
Being ubertired is a lot like being drunk - I'm stumbling, slurring my words, and losing small pockets of time. Small things made me giggle hysterically or fall into a black rage.
It's been 42 hours. That's long enough, I think. I'll post by the end of today or so to wrap things up - it's been a fun little ride and I may be stupid enough to do it again some day. Till then.

Thursday March 9th 2006 - 21:11 (9:11 PM) Well I lasted until somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00 AM - that's about 43 hours.
It was a fun ride, definitely - even the bits at 4 in the morning when the tiredness hit me and I wanted to kill everything. Chris and I have decided we're doing this again... only with more people. We stayed awake the best when there were more people here - and next time James is bringing his OWN computer. I think half the reason I ended up agreeing to pass out is because I was so BORED. Sure I had my Mac, but the webcam was running on my PC, and all my games are on my PC (aside from emulators and DiabloII, which I also have on the Powerbook). So, yeah.
I slept like the dead until about four (though it felt like noon or earlier somehow), and feel a bit drowsy now, too. I think once I sleep my body begins to demand it more - but yesterday about this time I was energetic and jumpy and cheerful and basically enjoying myself. Right now I feel like I could use another nap.
All right, well I'm off. I'll end this with the last image the webcam posted before we stopped the transmission:
We will do it again...
